The Treacle-Miner's Lifeguard

This is one of Alex's songs based on the real interviews with Faversham Treacle Miners before the closure of mines during the 80s.

A miner's life is full of treacle, from the dawn until the dusk
Spends his day in Demerera, underground amidst the musk
Sees those ferrets waiting for him, and his courage does not fail
Keep your yorkers tied up tightly, And your treacle in your pail

Chorus:
Treacle miners stick together, do not heed the ferret's tail
Keep your yorkers tied up tightly, And your treacle in your pail

You've been stuck & stuck again boys, deep down in this sugar mine
Cutting chunks of sweet molasses for the Kent boys to refine
with worn out boots and old cheesecutters, and a pint pot full of ale
Keep your yorkers tied up tightly, And your treacle in your pail

Chorus

Have your trousers tied up nightly, do not take them off to rest
lest those fast & furtive ferrets use your Y-Fronts as a nest
Chase them out when they come for you, 'til sparks fly from your hobnails
Keep your yorkers tied up tightly, And your treacle in your pail

Chorus

Soon this treacle will be ended, Tate & Lyle have come and gone
And the mines & sticky ferrets only live in dance and song
Till that day is fast upon us, treacle miners won't turn tail
Keep your yorkers tied up tightly, And your treacle in your pail

Chorus
